Mkulima Mbunifu (MkM) is a farmer information service based in Arusha, Tanzania, and implemented since July 2011 with support from Biovision Foundation, Switzerland and Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT), Nairobi, Kenya. MkM operates legally and administratively under Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT). MkM aims to provide information to smallholder farmers to enable them adopt improved sustainable agriculture technologies and practices.
MkM also aims to provide information to extension workers, researchers and students and to sensitize them on the available technologies and what needs to be done to improve the lifestyle of smallholder farmers in Tanzania. Government and private institutions, CBOs, NGOs, farmers groups, extension officers and individuals continue to support content and distribution of MkM information products.
MkM uses print, broadcast and social media communication pathways to deliver relevant and timely information on Ecologically Sustainable Agriculture (ESA) technologies and practices.
Mkulima Mbunifu is seeking to recruit a radio production consultant to support the production of radio content for three months, from October to December 2021. The radio programs are 15-minute monthly documentaries in Kiswahili that give useful tips on organic farming and answers questions raised by the farmers.
Overall purpose of the consultancy
The radio production consultant is expected to produce pre-recorded radio shows and also handle listener feedback to ensure the smooth running of the radio programs.
Specific responsibilities and duties
The successful candidate is expected to:
- Prepare three month production plan with MkM manager
- Conduct interviews with farmers and resource persons
- Carryout scripting, recording and editing of programs

Competencies required for the job
The successful applicant is required to have at least the following competencies:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in Kiswahili and English.
- Excellent interviewing skills.
- Proficiency in sound editing software, e.g. Adobe® Audition®.
- Recording skills in studio and on location.
- Outgoing personality and ability to maintain good social interactions with information providers.
Requirements/Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following academic and professional qualifications:
- A Bachelors degree or equivalent, preferably in media and communication or related fields.
- A Diploma in broadcast journalism and proven experience in script writing for radio, audio editing and community media production (could be considered in lieu of the University degree).
- Experience of working with small-scale farmers (an added advantage).
- A good radio voice.
NOTE: The consultant will use MkM office throughout production of the radio programs.
