TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR MKULIMA MBUNIFU INTERN

Mkulima Mbunifu is seeking to recruit suitably qualified intern to support MkM work in content development and distribution of MkM magazine. The intern will also support monitoring activities of the project, data management and feedback from users of knowledge products disseminated. Mkulima Mbunifu (MkM) is a farmer information service organization based in Arusha, Tanzania, and implemented since July 2011 with support from Biovision Foundation, Switzerland and Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT), Nairobi, Kenya and institutionally operates under Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT).

MkM aims to provide information on agroecology and organic agriculture through the magazine to smallholder farmers, extension workers, researchers and students to enable them adopt ecological sustainable agriculture technologies and practices.

The ecological sustainable agriculture information provided aims to equip the readers with knowledge and skills leading to increased yields, incomes and improved environmental health. The goal is to sustainably improve livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Tanzania while partnering with government, private institutions, CBOs, NGOs, farmers groups, extension officers and individuals who support content development and distribution of MkM information products.

MkM uses multiple communication pathways (magazine, radio and social media) to deliver relevant and timely information on ecologically sustainable agriculture (ESA) technologies and practices.

Overall purpose of the consultancy

The intern will support, as signed, MkM work in content development and dissemination tasks including monitoring and feedback from readers of MkM magazine.

Specific responsibilities and duties
The successful candidate is expected to:

  1. Support the MkM Manager with content development for MkM Magazine.
  2. Collect and document farmers feedbacks (comments, questions and answers from experts) through phone calls and WhatsApp. S.L.P 14402, Arusha, Tanzania Simu :+255 (0) 0714 266 0007 Barua pepe: info@mkulimambunifu.org
  3. Track and document delivery of MkM magazine to recipients as in readers database.
  4. Create and manage WhatsApp groups for relevant farmer groups as per the MkM new database for follow up.
  5. Collect and document evidence materials such as photographs, video clips and audio files by phone for success stories.
  6. Any other assigned task by MkM Manager.

Knowledge required for performing the job

The successful candidate will have the following competencies:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills (both in Kiswahili and English).
• Quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, and ability to work with data software packages such as KoboCollect in data base management.
• Recording skills – on location using mobile phone or camera.
• Outgoing personality and ability to maintain good social interactions with farmers and other stakeholders.
• Ability to speak and translate key documents from Kiswahili into English.
• Proficient user of MS Office software.
• Skills in social media such as WhatsApp, Facebook, etc.

Requirements/Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following academic and professional qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture/Agroecology, Social Science, Economics, Development Studies, Community Development)
2. Experience in Agriculture/Agroecology is an added advantage. How to apply
